Yanmar ViO55 — Basic Operation & Maintenance

This guide covers basic operation and daily care. Always follow the safety decals and operator’s manual supplied with the machine. If anything is unclear, call us before operating the equipment.

The current North American ViO55-6A uses a 47.6-hp Yanmar 4TNV86CT engine.

Before Starting

Before each shift:

• Look for leaks, loose components, or visible damage.
• Inspect the tracks for damage, excessive looseness, and packed debris.
• Check engine oil, coolant, hydraulic oil, and fuel.
• Inspect visible hydraulic hoses and cylinders.
• Remove debris from the radiator, oil cooler, and air inlets.
• Make sure windows and mirrors are clean.
• Check for people, underground or overhead utilities, drop-offs, and unstable ground.

Yanmar provides access to the engine, radiator, fuel, and hydraulic areas for routine inspection.

Starting & Controls

Enter using the steps and handholds, fasten the seat belt, and keep the hydraulic controls locked while entering or exiting.

After starting, allow the machine a brief warm-up and make sure serious warning indicators clear before working.

Before moving the machine, verify the control pattern and become familiar with the boom, arm, bucket, swing, blade, and travel controls. Never assume its controls are set the same as another excavator.

Operating Basics

• Travel with the boom and bucket low and close to the machine.
• Use slow, smooth movements near people, structures, or drop-offs.
• Reduce travel speed on rough or sloped terrain.
• Avoid abrupt turns or side-hill operation on steep ground.
• Position the machine on firm, stable ground before digging.
• Do not carry passengers.
• Do not use the bucket as a hammer.
• Do not perform suspended-load lifting unless the machine, rigging, and operation are specifically approved for it.

The zero-tail-swing design reduces rear overhang, but it does not eliminate the need for clearance. The boom, arm, bucket, blade, and other parts of the machine can still contact nearby objects or people.

Daily Care

Check fluids, tracks, hydraulics, and the cooling system every day. Keep the radiator and oil cooler free of dirt and debris.

For longer rentals, use the lubrication points and intervals shown on the machine/manual or provided by us. If you are unsure which grease or fluid to add, call us before adding anything.

DPF & Emissions

The ViO55 uses a diesel particulate filter and Yanmar regeneration technology to control soot accumulation.

Regeneration can cause high exhaust temperatures. If the machine requests a parked/manual regeneration, shows a persistent DPF warning, or begins limiting engine power, move to a safe location away from combustible material and call us for instructions.

Stop Operating and Call Us If

Stop safely if you notice:

• A red or serious warning
• Engine or hydraulic overheating
• A significant hydraulic, fuel, or coolant leak
• Track damage or a track coming off
• Loss of hydraulic functions
• Unusual noises or severe vibration
• A DPF warning that does not clear

Do not attempt major hydraulic, engine, electrical, or undercarriage repairs yourself.

Shutdown & Transport

Park on firm, reasonably level ground. Lower the bucket and blade to the ground, engage the hydraulic lockout, idle briefly after heavy operation, shut the engine off, and remove the key.

Depending on configuration, the ViO55 weighs roughly 11,850–12,313 lb. before some equipment is added. Verify the actual machine weight, towing capacity, trailer rating, and securement requirements before transporting it.
